Book Q&A
Here are some common questions you, as an athlete, coach, or athletic director, might have about the book.
Why are you doing this project?" / "What’s your motivation?
I'm passionate about improving the youth sports experience for athletes. I’ve seen firsthand how coaching and parenting styles can make or break an athlete's journey. I believe there’s an opportunity to share real stories that can help parents, coaches, and sports organizations better support young athletes—not just in their performance but also in their overall development and well-being
Who else have you interviewed?" / "Who else is involved?
I'm currently reaching out to a range of athletes, coaches, and experts at different levels of sport. I want to include perspectives from a variety of sports and experiences. While I can’t reveal every name due to privacy, I’d be happy to share general themes from past conversations if that’s helpful
How will my story be used?" / "Will this be published?
This project is intended for a book that aims to educate and inspire. Your insights could be included as a direct quote, a summarized experience, or anonymously if you prefer. I’m happy to let you review anything I include before it’s published to ensure accuracy and comfort.
Will I be compensated?
This is an independent project, and at this stage, I’m unable to offer financial compensation. However, your insights will contribute to a meaningful conversation about how we can improve the sports experience for young athletes. If the book becomes a success, I’d love to explore ways to give back to the sports community
Can I remain anonymous?
Absolutely! If you’d prefer to share your experiences anonymously, I can keep your name and identifying details confidential. My main goal is to share valuable insights, whether credited or anonymous
How long will the interview take?
I’d be happy to tailor it to your schedule. Typically, interviews last between 20-45 minutes, but if you only have 10-15 minutes, I can focus on just a few key questions. We can do this over the phone, Zoom, or even via email—whatever works best for you
What if I don’t have anything valuable to say?
Every athlete’s journey is valuable! Even if you don’t think your experiences are extraordinary, your perspective can help shape the way parents and coaches approach youth sports. The small moments—the good and the bad—are what truly make a difference.
What sports are you focusing on?
I’m looking at all sports—team and individual, recreational and competitive. I want to capture insights that are universal across different sports while also highlighting unique experiences from different disciplines.
Can I see the questions ahead of time?
Of course! I’d be happy to share the questions in advance so you can think about them beforehand. That way, you can decide which topics you feel comfortable discussing.
What if I change my mind after the interview?
No problem at all. If you decide you’d rather not be included, or if you’d like me to adjust how your story is presented, I’ll respect that. My priority is making sure you feel comfortable with how your insights are used.
